Rick Hendricks
New Mexico State Historian Rick Hendricks, who has worked in NMSU’s Archives & Special Collections Dept. and also taught Latin American History, will take part in two separate events at the Barnes & Noble at NMSU Bookstore & Café in Las Cruces.
Hendricks will first read from his book entitled “The Casads: A Pioneer Family of the Mesilla Valley” at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6. A signing will follow the reading. Then at noon on Saturday, Oct. 20, he will present a lecture on “Elephant Butte Dam, the Brazito Grant, and New Mexico Statehood” as part of the Centennial Speakers Series. The lecture will explore the intrigue and controversy surrounding the planning for the construction of a dam that would place tens of thousands of acres in the Mesilla Valley under irrigation.
Both events will be held in the 2nd floor northeast Living Room and are free and open to the public. Barnes & Noble at NMSU is located at 1400 E.
